Whether you decide to have a lunch at a local taverna or a restaurant, there are hundreds of places with exquisite food on Corfu. The local cuisine is delightful and quite different from what is found in Greek restaurants abroad. Most of the Corfiot recipes rely only on the use of fresh meat and vegetables.
It is common for Greeks to prepare a lunch of mezedes, typical meals that include fried meatballs, octopus, shrimp, squid, cheese, olives, stuffed vine leaves, squash balls, tzatziki, eggplant dip, small sausages and giant beans. You can find mezedes at an ouzeri (tavernas serving ouzo, an anise-flavored liqueur or beer.)
For dinner, Greek tavernas serve specialties such as moussaka, pastitsada, mpourdeto, kebab, pastitsio, stifado and paidakia. Dont’ forget to try the local drink called ginger beer.
